CAITLIN BLOMSTROM (b. 1989)
Nashville, TN
I am an artist and arts professional with experience working in non-profits, gallery administration, and project management. I hold a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
Painting allows me to hold onto the fleeting landmarks of everyday life before they disappear. Through light, shadow, and quietly familiar imagery, I create oil paintings that exist as poetic documentation of spaces in my life that are tied to memory, routine and nostalgia within the Southern landscape.
I focus on quiet encounters and overlooked scenes during daily walks or routines. I come to painting through the lens of photography. My compositions are deeply informed by the camera’s framing. I work both en plein air and in the studio using photographs I’ve taken. I typically work on a small scale, allowing me to capture moments quickly while inviting viewers to step closer, almost as if examining a photographic negative.
